  • Mass Spectrometry Developer Scientist/Engineer

  • In this position you will design mass spectrometry components and integrate these in support of ion trap and TOFMS systems. Your work will primarily support design, development, and commerciali-zation of MS systems integrated with direct air sampling methods such as thermally desorbed sam-ples of explosives and chem./bio weapons substances collected on various sampling substrates. Our target market for these systems is in homeland security and environmental monitoring. The candidate must have experience designing MS components and knowledge of sampling systems. Experience with GC hardware development and integration is a positive. Knowledge of biological and chemical weapons detection is desirable. The candidate will be expected to have in-depth expertise in theory and experimental implementation of MS/MS. The candidate must have MS design experience and be able to integrate separation and MS technologies. Product development experience or at least familiarity with commercial systems is highly desirable.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop product specifications (operation, hardware, and software)
    • Design and integrate MS to various sampling devices
    • Work effectively with vendors, commercial partners and customers
    • Coordinate and execute field tests and customer demos
    • Interact effectively with engineering, scientific, management, and manufacturing staff

    Qualifications:

    • PhD (or BS, MS with exceptional skill) and at least 5 years experience in MS development
    • Previous experience working with government contracts highly desirable
    • Hands-on design, prototyping, debugging, and optimization skills
    • Strong determination to meet program milestones
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to participate in and lead team efforts
