  • Ion Source Designer/Developer

  • We are looking for a person with the combined talents of instrument ion source development and knowledge and experience of the interface between LC, GC, and the MS. Syagen is expanding on its atmospheric pressure photoionization (APPI) products and technology including developments of more intense light sources, multimode source configurations, ambient analysis (e.g., with DART and ASAP), and GC/APPI. The candidate must have experience designing MS components and knowledge of sampling methods, e.g., LC and GC and the issues in achieving efficient ionization by multiple means. The person would perform R&D feasibility experiments that would transition to product engineering. This position requires design talent and the ability to perform rapid prototyping and testing. Product development experience or at least familiarity with commercial systems is highly desirable.

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct R&D feasibility experiments to validate new technologies with product potential
    • Develop product specifications (operation, hardware, and software)
    • Design and integrate ionization source technology to separation and MS components
    • Work effectively with vendors, commercial partners and customers
    • Coordinate and execute field tests and customer demos
    • Interact effectively with engineering, scientific, management, and manufacturing staff

    Qualifications:

    • PhD (or BS, MS with exceptional skill) and at least 5 years of experience in MS and/or ion source development
    • Understanding of ionization processes and ion-molecule chemistry
    • Excellent design skills and be resourceful in achieving successful lab prototype results
    • Hands-on design, prototyping, debugging, and optimization skills
    • Strong determination to meet program milestones
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to participate in and lead team efforts
